June 13, 2016 With opening day in Portillo just around the corner, Chile’s most iconic ski resort has been working around the clock to prepare the hotels and mountain safety for their first day of the 2016 ski season set for June 18th. Their biggest challenge has been digging out after the monster storm that dropped 9-10 feet of snow last week.
Today more snow is falling and is expected to continue into Tuesday. Snow -Forecast is calling for over 10 inches at 10,860 feet. The main pass between Chile and Argentina, Los Libertadores, remains closed and it does not look like it will open for the next several days as the weather deteriorates and stalls clean up from last weeks burial.
The resort is looking like it will open with some of the best snow coverage it has seen on opening day in years.
