June 6, 2018– Today the tucked away southern Chile ski destination Corralco officially announced via Instagram Stories they have decided to open for the ski season on June 15th, 2018.
As of current, this would make Corralco, located on the Lonquimay Volcano officially the first South American ski destination to spin their lifts for the public this season. They pulled this claim off back in 2015. But like they say, don’t count your gallinas until they are hatched…
With the current weather models and forecasts pointing to a huge storm moving in to Chile and Argentina this weekend, there is a chance another Chilean resort could steal the spotlight from Corralco. That’s right. El Colorado Resort above Santiago.
El Colorado owns the most “first to open” claims of all ski destinations in South America over the decades. With 3-5 feet currently forecasted this weekend, they could easily beat Corralco to the punch and get things going next week. Discover more South American ski destinations here.
