Several of the Andean ski resorts awoke to fresh snow on May 7th and 8th. A reminder that the 2018 ski season in South America is just around the corner. While basically a dusting, the first snows of the season are always exciting and the current weather models are showing a significant storm building over the Pacific that could bring cold temperatures and several feet of new snow to the area starting Wednesday May 10th and lasting through the weekend.
Current numbers are showing potentially 40 inches in areas like Valle Nevado, but these total predictions are sure to fluctuate over the next few days as the low approaches and temperatures begin to drop in Central Chile.
Depending on the Autumn and early Winter snows, the ski areas in the Andes could begin to open as early as late May, but generally mid to late June is more common. Check back for updates.
